“Owned is a dark erotic romance unlike anything you’ve ever read before. Sinful, sexy, and intense, you’re not going to be able to put this book down.”
The Review –
Owned is intense, to say the least. M Never really has a way with words, and in this book she uses them to make you squirm, fall in love, hope and pray for things to work out well, and to make you feel things you’ve never felt before.
The story revolves around Kayne and Ellie. What I really liked about this one compared to a lot of BDSM focused books is that Ellie’s had a thing for Kayne for awhile. You usually see it where the heroine is a little more reluctant to get into a relationship with the enigmatic businessman, but I felt like Ellie was a little more of my kind of person in that she knows what she likes, even if she’s a little too afraid to go get it at first. There’s reasons, and they make sense, but I just liked that she liked him!
And Kayne… he’s got more than enough secrets for the both of them. He’s holding back in a way, too. While Ellie is keeping a safe distance from Kayne for business reasons, he’s keeping his secrets for his own personal reasons. The contrast was a really interesting mix that I enjoyed. There’s a lot of reasons for them to not be together, but I still wanted them to come together.
And, oh boy, when they threw caution to the wind and went for it, it was smoldering! The sex scenes are intense. I loved the Master/slave aspect, too. It’s not something you really see in a lot of books, at least not to this level. I liked that this kind of shed light on a different side to BDSM than the usual, and while some parts left me feeling a little worried, I enjoyed reading it a lot.
As long as you know what you’re getting into, this is a great book. It’s got those mysteries and forbidden attractions that I can’t seem to get enough of, the steaming hot sex scenes that I want in almost all of my books, and watching the story and relationship unfold between Ellie and Kayne was really exciting. They’re a cute couple, despite being more than a little kinky, haha. I loved them!
I really can’t wait to read more.
The Interview –
We’re lucky to have a special treat for you today! Here to answer a few questions is one of our favorite writers, M. Never. She’s the author of the Decadence after Dark series, which, if you haven’t read it yet, I’d definitely recommend.
So… without further adieu…
Lily – I was first attracted to Owned after seeing the cover, but the story really drew me in. What do you think the allure is for BDSM dark romance stories like yours?
M Never – I think the allure of the unknown and taboo subject matter. Dark books are a veiled ally of curiosity. They take you on a ride like no other kind of story can do. They push boundaries for both the reader and author. It’s exhilaration.
L – I’d say this is heavier than some other books like it. Definitely more than books like the Fifty Shades series. Did you ever want to “safeword” your own writing and take a break because it got too emotional for you?
M – Definitely. I had to write on a fine line. I wanted to push limits, but not to the point I turned the reader off. Underneath all dark subject matter, I always wanted the reader to feel the humanity, the love, and the attraction. It’s a delicate balance.
L – I love hearing how other people feel about BDSM. Owned focuses on something a little more hardcore, namely a Master/slave relationship. Can you explain a little bit about what that kind of relationship means to you? What do you think is important about it for the characters, and why do they want to do what they do?
M – For this story, Master/slave evolved. It was used at first to show dominance and control. An intimidation factor. But as the story goes on that relationship morphs into a real bond, Master taking care of slave and vice versa. They each find something golden in the other. Some worth handing body and soul over for. True loyalty and trust.
L – The entire Decadence after Dark series is great! What do you have planned next, though? More books in the series, or are you working on anything else new?
M – I have just released a contemporary standalone novel called Moto. It’s an erotic ménage based on twin brothers who fall for the same woman. I am also working on the fifth and final Decadence book Elicit, which is Jett and London’s story. 🙂
L – One last thing before we let you get back to writing! Sometimes it’s fun to play a game of “author telephone,” so… besides your own books, what BDSM dark romance book would you really recommend?
M – Captive in the Dark by CJ Roberts and Dark Notes by Pam Godwin!! Both incredible.
L – Anything else you want to let us know about before we go?
M – Just to check out Moto! Available on KU along with all four books in the Decadence series!
Thanks so much for joining us today. I had a great time, and I hope you did, too!
